MINISTRY OF DIGITAL AND MDEC EMPOWER THE FUTURE OF EDUCATION THROUGH THE “AI-POWERED CLASSROOM” PILOT PROJECT IN SARAWAK

SARAWAK, 12 FEBRUARY 2026 – The Secretary-General of the Ministry of Digital, Yang Berbahagia Datuk Fabian Bigar, today conducted an official working visit to Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) St. James Quop, Padawan. This school has been selected as a MADANI Adopted School under the auspices of the Ministry of Digital.

The primary focus of the visit was to monitor the current progress of the MADANI Adopted School program, while also observing the implementation of the “AI-Powered Classroom” Proof-of-Concept (PoC) pilot project currently being conducted at the school.

The PoC Project initiative implemented at this school, led by the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) in collaboration with the Ministry of Education Malaysia, is a strategic move to evaluate the effectiveness of AI technology integration. At the same time, it aims to empower Teaching and Learning (PdP) sessions, thereby bridging the digital divide in rural areas.

For the first phase, which has been underway since August 2025, this PoC pilot project is specifically designed to cultivate AI technology within the education ecosystem. Besides aiming to boost students' individual learning potential, this initiative also focuses on empowering the digital competencies of educators and administrators. This effort is in line with the aspirations of the MADANI Adopted School program, which is committed to enhancing the efficiency of public service delivery and driving excellence in the schools under its patronage.

The successful implementation of the project at SK St. James Quop is driven by a robust strategic synergy between the academic sector and major industry technology players. A coalition of strategic partners comprising MyDIGITAL Corporation, Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS), Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), Microsoft Malaysia, Intel Malaysia, Dell Technologies, Vector InfoTech, Pandai Education, Chumbaka Sdn Bhd, and APR Electronic Services has played a pivotal role in contributing technical expertise, providing advanced devices, AI-driven educational applications, and training funds to ensure a holistic digital education ecosystem can be realized at this school.

During the visit, the Ministry of Digital delegation also had the opportunity to witness practical demonstrations of technological solutions used by students and teachers. Subsequently, the visit concluded with a handover ceremony of equipment, including AI-powered laptops, digital devices, and Smart Boards from strategic partners, symbolizing the strategic synergy toward the digital transformation of the school.

The initiative implemented at SK St. James Quop is a clear manifestation of the government's commitment to ensuring that no student is left behind in the mainstream digital economy. This move is not only in line with the objectives of Malaysia MADANI to nurture and strengthen the values of individuals and society, but it also serves as a key catalyst in preparing the younger generation Towards AI Nation 2030 through inclusive and sustainable innovation.
